Major Canadian companies arenāt requiring proof of vaccination for workers...yet.Ā
Background: In the U.S., Google, Facebook, Uber, Netflix, and Walmart are some of the major companies requiring employees to get vaccinated. But so far in Canada, no major company has come up with a similar vaccine mandate.Ā
While 61% of Canadians would support the move, a Gartner survey found that only 8% of companies would require workers to be vaccinated. Ā
- Facebook and Google have said that they donāt have mandates for their Canadian offices yet.
- CIBC, BMO, and RBC are encouraging employees to get the shot, but arenāt requiring it.Ā
Businesses can require workers to get vaccinated but have to make exceptions for religious or medical reasons. The tricky part is because the feds and provincial governments havenāt mandated it, such mandates may not hold up in court.Ā
Bottom line: Businesses are coming up with their own vaccination policies with or without government guidelines.
