Remember the feeling of getting a 90% on an exam, and that being evaporated when your brother comes home with a 94%? Fine, we’ve never got a 90 either, but those are the stellar effectiveness grades being put up by Pfizer and Moderna’s covid vaccines.
Trial Results
Moderna’s two shot vaccine has been trialed on 30,000 people with a 94.5% efficacy rate. No severe side effects have been found, with most common side effects being injection site pain, and fatigue. We’re thinking we’ll get over the fatigue pretty quickly.
What Matters for Canada
- We have pre-purchased 20 million doses of the vaccine.
- Canada has an option to purchase 36 million more doses.
- The Moderna vaccine is a two shot process, meaning that’s enough to inoculate 28 million people.
- Health Canada is already reviewing the data, if all goes well expect a roll out in 2021.
Keep Cool: Unlike the Pfizer vaccine which needs to be stored at -70 degrees, Moderna’s shot can be stored in conventional freezers at -20 degrees. Either way keep an eye out for cold storage supply chain companies to play a big part in the roll out.
