What to do this weekend

What to do this weekend

Eat a deep-dish pizza in honour of National Deep-Dish Pizza Day (which is today, just FYI). Invented in 1943 at Chicago’s Pizzeria Uno, this soup-like take on pizza is beloved by some, though not all. While there are many regional variations now, here’s a recipe for the original.

Read I See You’ve Called in Dead by John Kenney. A great read for anyone who’s ever struggled through a dead-end job, this novel from humorist and New Yorker contributor John Kenney is about an obituary writer who accidently posts his own obit to the newswire.

Watch a movie with Val Kilmer, who passed away at age 65. Despite reaching superstar status (and even playing Batman), it always felt like Kilmer was underrated. In his honour, pick something to watch from this list of his best roles. We recommend Top Secret! or Heat.

Listen to Music Can Hear Us by DJ Koze. Stefan Kozalla, the eccentric wizard of German house music, is back with his first solo album in seven years. Bursting with wild ideas, genre experimentalism, and deep-felt emotions, this is an ideal album for welcoming warmer weather.—QH
