What to do this weekend

May 24, 2025

What to do this weekend

Eat a fresh loaf of croissant bread. Two great things that go great together. This viral trend involves grating chilled butter into bread dough, as you would into croissant dough, creating an incredible texture. Originally done with sourdough, bakers are trying it with focaccia, too.

Read The Optimist by Keach Hagey and Empire of AI by Karen Hao. Two flashy new books about Sam Altman and OpenAI came out this week. The former, the first comprehensive biography of Sam Altman, and the latter, a detailed account of OpenAI’s rapid ascendence.

Watch The Rehearsal season finale on Crave. The second season of Canadian Nathan Fielder’s show comes to a close on Sunday, making this weekend the perfect time to catch up. From cloned dogs to fake singing contests, it might be the wildest season of TV ever.

Listen to Instant Holograms on Metal Film by Stereolab. The first studio album in nearly 15 years from the massively influential Anglo-French avant-pop group is a nerdy delight, with sweet bedroom pop vocals dressed up in retrofuturist electronica and swingin’ jazz.—QH
