What to do this weekend

Jun 15, 2024

What to do this weekend

Eat a chilly (not chili) dinner. It’s getting sweltering out, so cool down with some dishes that — much like revenge — are best served cold. Start with a bowl of classic gazpacho, move on to a southern-style shrimp pasta salad, and finish with a watermelon poke bowl.

Read Shock Values by Carola Binder. In this fascinating deep dive, an economist looks at the previously untold ways that inflation and deflation helped shape the course of America’s political and economic history. Hopefully, there’ll be a sequel one day that looks at Canada.

Watch the new season of The Boys on Amazon Prime. The ultra-dark, super-violent, highly enjoyable superhero satire is back for a fourth season. We predict lots of mayhem and vengeance. The first three episodes are out now, with the rest released weekly until July 18.

Listen to As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again by The Decemberists. The long-standing, hyper-literate folky rockers are still going strong. Their ninth album is another collection of novelistic and baroque songs showcasing frontman Colin Meloy’s always-sharp pen.—QH
