What to do this weekend

What to do this weekend

Eat, or drink, a pickle-y concoction. Pickle juice-based cocktails are (understandably) divisive, but they’re having a moment right now for good reason. The salty, briny pickle flavour is a perfect additive for savoury drinks. Here are six recipes for brave souls.

Read The Buried City by Gabriel Zuchtriegel. Written by the director general of Pompeii, this book provides an all-access look at the famous Italian city frozen in time. Part history of Pompeii, part account of the work it takes to maintain it, it’s an entirely fascinating read.

Watch All the Sharks on Netflix. We would have loved to have been in the brainstorming session that conjured this new competition show in which four teams compete to photograph the most sharks. The rarer the shark they snap, the more points they get. Sure… why not?

Listen to Chance Encounters. CNN’s podcast about romances, friendships, and other connections forged while travelling has returned for another season. This delightful show is a sunshiny tonic for a bad mood, and you can easily breeze through its back catalogue.—QH
