What to do this weekend

Oct 19, 2024

What to do this weekend

Eat a warm, fishy soup. Autumnal soups are typically loaded with gourds and root veggies, but what about trying some fish? In honour of National Seafood Bisque Day (a totally real thing), put an aquatic spin on your cozy fall cup of soup using lobster, shrimp, or white fish.

Read The Treasure Hunters Club by Tom Ryan. The Nova Scotian author’s latest novel is a mystery about a secret society and a highly coveted treasure hidden in an unassuming seaside town. Kirkus calls it an “edge-of-your-seat, page-turning delight.” We’re sold!

Watch Smile 2, now in theatres. As Halloween nears, it's the perfect time to go to the movies and get scared silly. Smile 2 — the sequel to the 2022 sleeper hit about a scary, smiley entity — should do the trick, as it’s getting even better reviews than its predecessor.

Listen to Fate & Alcohol by Japandroids. The Vancouver drum and guitar duo responsible for some of the most rousing rockers of their generation have called it quits after 18 years. Their final parting gift? One final album full of heart-on-sleeve, full-throated anthems.—QH
