If you don’t have access to dental insurance and make less than $90,000 a year, it’s time to apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Since its launch last year, more than 2.7 million Canadians have been approved for the plan, and they’re saving an average of $730 on services like cleanings and disease screenings. Depending on your family net income, the plan covers anywhere from 40% to 100% of your dental expenses. Finding a dentist who accepts the plan is pretty easy — 89% of oral health providers are enrolled. Plus, just last week, the health department began expanding the services covered by the plan to include things like fittings for partial dentures and crown placements. But here's the thing: there are still about 6 million Canadians who can’t afford to go to the dentist— many of whom are eligible for the dental plan. To qualify for the plan, you also need to be a Canadian resident and have filed taxes. If you fit all the criteria, make sure to apply when you become eligible.
