What to do this weekend

What to do this weekend

Eat a cranberry for National Eat a Cranberry Day. Or eat several cranberries. The Atlantic Canadian fruit might be best known for its use in jelly and Craisins, but its unique, tart flavour lends well to a variety of dishes. Check out these 16 cranberry-forward recipes.

Read this year’s Giller Prize winner. One of Canadian literature’s most prestigious awards went to the acclaimed Toronto author Anne Michaels for her novel Held. It’s an epic story spanning 1902 through 2025 about the effects of war on four generations of one family.

Watch Gladiator II, now in theatres. Did the Best Picture winner Gladiator need a long-gap sequel? Probably not. But we’re happy to travel back to Ancient Rome to watch Paul Mescal merk a bunch of dudes while rocking a tunic as Denzel Washington looks on approvingly.

Listen to GNX by Kendrick Lamar. After bodying Drake in a feud earlier this year, the acclaimed rapper is taking (yet another) victory lap by releasing a new album without any prior warning. It is, unsurprisingly, engrossing, introspective, and filled with provocations.

Also, give Mahashmashana by Father John Misty a listen. We were going to recommend it before Kendrick decided to surprise drop his record and we feel bad for bumping him.—QH
