You know things are serious when a Caesar salad arouses strong feelings. When restaurant chain Mandy’s revamped its take on romaine covered in creamy garlicky dressing, reactions were mixed. “I could drink the new dressing,” raved one rapturous voice. “The first time I tried it for lunch, I ordered it the same day for dinner,” echoed another. “So sad it’s not the same,” mourned one social media commenter. “Yep. The old one was way better,” replied someone else.
Mandy Wolfe is used to this. “Whenever we make a menu change, it’s a big disruptor,” says the Mandy’s Salads co-founder. “There’s usually a month or two of freakouts, and then it settles down.”
That anyone would care that they’d retired the parm crisps and capers and added chicken is a testament to the fact that for many people, Mandy’s is so much more than just a place to get lunch.
