If someone asks whether you’ve heard about Vancouver’s hottest new sauna and cold plunge spot, it’s a trick question. The answer is: “Which one?”
Metro Vancouver has proven fertile ground for the new dawn of sauna. Over the last six years, riffs on the Finnish thermal circuit sauna, where patrons loll in heated steam before cooling off in brisk water, have been popping up like mushrooms across neighbourhoods — a rough estimate: 20 and counting.
Finnish-style circuit saunas have been trending up in certain urban centres globally, according to the Global Wellness Institute’s 2026 trend report, which cited Toronto’s cultishly high-concept Othership spa as an example of a wellness model you can scale. The sauna industry is expected to be valued at $1.78 billion globally in 2030, up from $1.2 billion in 2023, according to market research.
