What to do this weekend

Eat some freshly harvested rhubarb. ’Tis the season for that striking pink-red perennial, which is sprouting in gardens across the country. We all know a slice of rhubarb pie is great, but this versatile veg has lots of uses. Here are 41 rhubarb recipes, both savoury and sweet.

Read Julie Chan Is Dead by Liann Zhang. The Canadian author’s debut novel (inspired by her brief time as a skincare influencer) is a satirical thriller about a young woman who takes on the identity of her estranged influencer twin sister after she mysteriously dies.

Watch Bonjour Tristesse, now in theatres. The acclaimed Canadian essayist Durga Chew-Bose has pivoted to the world of film with a modern update of the 1954 novel of the same name. It’s a summery, romantic, melancholic coming-of-age story that looks stunning.

Listen to Who Will Look After the Dogs? by PUP. The prolific Canadian punk rockers are back again with another album full of rockers shot through with snotty burn-out energy and surprisingly poppy sensibilities. If you like crunchy guitars and big choruses, tune in.—QH
