Rob Khazzam on what’s next for Float

Rob Khazzam is the CEO and founder of Float, a financial platform for growing businesses. He sat down with The Peak to talk about his mission and how it fits into the financial industry.

Are there any misconceptions about your industry that you’d be eager to correct?

Many believe the Canadian financial system is working as intended, but it's really designed to serve large institutions. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are left to navigate outdated, slow, and costly processes that don't reflect their real needs. Canadians think that we need to wait for the government or the banks to fix these problems. We don't. At Float, we're making this change happen today.

Why decide to focus your mission on simplifying expenses?

Small businesses deserve finance solutions that move at their speed and don't get in the way. By simplifying expense management, we're helping business owners and finance teams reclaim time and resources so they can focus on growth, not bureaucracy.

What are some of the challenges small businesses face that Float hopes to solve?

From slow-moving funds to limited access to capital, SMBs are forced to work within a system that wasn’t built for them. Float's suite of products — including corporate cards, bill pay, reimbursements, and financial services — provides everything needed to manage spending and cash flow efficiently, allowing teams to focus on what truly matters: growing their business.

If everything goes right, where is Float in the next five years?

Float will be one of the fastest-growing financial services companies in the world, delivering world-class experiences that enable Canadian SMBs to pay and receive funds, invest capital, and automate their operations all with a single platform.

What are you paying the most attention to these days?

Float's product, how it is serving our customers, and how we can make it even better in the months and years ahead.

Is there a book you’ve read recently that you’d recommend?

Parkinson's Law, which humorously explores the concept that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion." The book offers witty observations on time management, office politics, and the nature of administrative growth.
