How two freelancers found the perfect business partners in each other

Sally Lunn and Michelle Nguyen were successful freelancers, but both found solo entrepreneurship a lonely experience. What they found in each other was the confidence, drive and freedom to team up and launch their own agency.

What they do: Super Duper Studios is a digital-first branding agency that works with clients to establish a visual identity and put out double-tap-worthy content on social media channels.

How they got started: Lunn, a creative director, and Nguyen, a copywriter, found themselves paired up often while working as freelancers for big branding agencies. After establishing themselves as a duo that could deliver, they decided to venture into business together. In 2020, "pandemic baby" Super Duper Studios launched.

How much it cost: $150 to buy a domain and upgrade a website.

How much they make: $10,000 per month each

Their advantage: Through their partnership, Lunn and Nguyen found reliability, accountability and someone they could bounce ideas off of to boost their creative output.

  • "When people buy into us, they're not just buying into our final product, but they're buying into us as friends and as longtime partners—the duo is what people are buying."

What's next: Super Duper has plans to scale and add more team members with a focus on mentorship and in-depth training. But Lunn and Nguyen are keen on keeping a hands-on approach, regardless of how big the studio grows.

  • "We don't wanna be the type of owners who have nothing to do with the business."

Key takeaway: If you aren’t ready for a solo entrepreneurship journey, finding someone to team up with can be a great way to make venturing out on your own less scary—just make sure to pick a partner who complements your own skills and personality.
